About AVC : President's Message

President’s Message

On behalf of the Antelope Valley Community College District’s Board of Trustees, administrators, faculty and staff, welcome to Antelope Valley College and thank you for choosing to pursue the educational opportunities available here. Antelope Valley College is a special place that affords students significant learning opportunities through devoted teaching, excellent support services, and an environment that is responsive to students’ changing needs and circumstances.

Significant milestones were reached during the 2006-2007 academic year. For example, the college added a new respiratory therapy program and a training academy for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, 100% of Honors Program students seeking transfer to UCLA were accepted, over $90,000 in scholarships were awarded to AVC students, and the college’s student newspaper was recognized in a national competition for overall excellence. The college’s athletic program also reached new heights, as the 26 th Marauder was named to the state’s Pepsi Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, the women’s softball team reached the state’s final four, and the men’s basketball team earned second place in the state championship tournament.

There is also much to look forward to in the future. The addition of eleven full-time faculty positions will allow the college to increase offerings of high-demand courses; students who attend courses at the Palmdale site will be able to complete all general education requirements and receive needed support services without visiting the main campus; and construction projects, including a new 400-seat theatre, two-story health and science building, and comprehensive athletic complex will provide space for the college to continue to meet the educational needs of this growing community.

Antelope Valley College is committed to providing an educational environment that encourages lifelong learning. Our programs and services are excellent because we are dedicated to one common goal: always act in the best interest of our students.

Again, Welcome to Antelope Valley College.
