Classes in BE building Cancelled
A report of smoke Wednesday morning, May 21, forced evacuation of the Business Education (BE) Building and Learning Center at the Lancaster campus.
Classes in the BE Building were cancelled through the morning and early afternoon as officials allowed smoke to clear from the structure. Classes in the building were set to resume their regular schedule at 3 p.m.
A discarded cigarette is blamed for igniting debris in an outdoor drain on the west side of the BE Building just before 9 a.m. Winds and the building ventilation system quickly circulated the smell of smoke throughout the structure prompting the evacuation.
Los Angeles County firefighters swept through the building searching for the smoke source. College officials kept the three-story BE Building closed until smoke could be cleared from classrooms and offices.
