AVC in cooperation with Waterfall Mobile has initiated the AlertU emergency messaging system, which will allow students and employees to receive text advisories in the event of an emergency.
People need only register their cell phone numbers under the program – a simple process that can be completed in a matter of seconds. There is no cost to the college. Each user will be charged standard text messaging rates by their cell phone service provider.
Several California community colleges have adopted the AlertU system in the wake of last year’s fatal shooting at Virginia Tech.
AlertU technology enables college officials to post emergency text messages quickly to thousands of individuals.
Anyone can register to get the alerts by going to:
https://www.alertu.org/avc.
Also, people may register utilizing the icon on AVC’s main Web page or by using a cell phone to text the message “AVC” to 253788 (AlertU), and then replying with a Y.
Aside from potential tests of the system, messages are only sent in emergencies. AlertU subscribers will not receive spam, nor will subscriber information be shared with third party marketers.
