Antelope Valley College graduates Derek Cheung and Jesse Cheung have each been awarded a $5,000 scholarship to attend University of California, Los Angeles this fall.
The Cheung brothers, who graduated with highest honors from AVC in May, were among 36 students in Southern California receiving special scholarship awards as participants in the Transfer Alliance Program (TAP), a collaboration between UCLA, AVC and other area community colleges.
TAP provides students completing Honors Program requirements at AVC with priority consideration for admission to UCLA.
The Cheung brothers graduated from AVC summa cum laude, with highest distinction, for maintaining a grade point average between 3.75-4.0. Each earned an Associate in Science degree. Derek Chung also earned an Associate in Arts degree.
In addition to the UCLA TAP scholarships, both were presented $1,000 scholarships from Lockheed Martin Corporation through the Antelope Valley College Foundation.
