Land to be purchased for Palmdale site at 25th Street East
AVC’s new Palmdale site will be on 25th Street East south of Avenue S, according to a purchase agreement unanimously approved by trustees Monday. If all goes according to plan, the district should close escrow in February on the 60-acre site currently owned by Fieldstone, a residential developer.
The land will cost $5 million, which will be paid for through Measure R funds.
The property on the west side of 25th Street East was approved by the City of Palmdale for a residential development. However, with a downturn in the housing market, Fieldstone chose to sell the property.
The new site is several miles from the College Park site near Barrel Springs Road, where the college had intended to build its second campus. A long series of delays and hurdles in developing the College Park site prompted college officials to seek out optional sites with the assistance of a property negotiator, Public Private Ventures.
