AV SOAR High School

S.O.A.R. (Students on the Academic Rise) High School is a specialized high school located on the Antelope Valley College campus but it is part of the Antelope Valley Joint Union High School District. It is an Early College High School which integrates college courses into the high school curriculum. SOAR students will be treated as college students. Successful students will receive both a high school diploma and an Associate's college degree within five years. SOAR High has an emphasis in mathematics, science and engineering. Parents and students are encouraged to be actively involved in the program. Average students who are high potential but low performing in the traditional educational system and who have not yet begun high school are encouraged to apply.

An Emphasis On...
With an emphasis on math, science and engineering, SOAR High School will prepare students for more advanced college courses and ultimately a successful future in today's high tech industries.

Getting Involved
SOAR High School students will be integrated into college-life activities. All SOAR High School students will be able to participate in AVC college life including but not limited to Associated Student Organization participation, campus clubs, college-wide activities, fine and performing arts, etc. Participation in intercollegiate athletics will be excluded. In addition, college orientation will be incorporated in the high school foundation class (AVID College Seminar) to meet AVC’s matriculation steps. Each student will meet with the counseling staff and work on college career planning.

A Unique Program
The understanding and respect for the unique nature of SOAR High School will be emphasized through contacts with parents and students. SOAR High School students will be immersed in the college culture and be treated as college students with respect to student engagement activities.
